DESCRIPTION:Major production-grade Operating Systems (OSes)\, such as the B
SD OSes\, have continued to advance thanks to the substantial efforts of t
heir developer and user communities.\nThis talk explores the question of w
hether there are other possible forms of OS functionality development that
can accelerate development velocity while reducing the burden on these co
mmunities.\nSpecifically\, we discuss what a software architecture should
look like to enable the easy incorporation of implementations developed by
different parties in a decentralized manner\, without introducing signifi
cant performance bottlenecks.\nThe discussion will be informed by the spea
ker’s experiences with the development of a portable TCP/IP stack [1] an
d the exploration of approaches for implementing OS functionalities in use
 r space [2\, 3\, 4].\nTo conclude\, I would like to humbly put forward sev
eral modest feature requests for the BSD community.\n\n[1] https://doi.org
